Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Cyprus Water Levels (nero.cy) is an independent, open-source dashboard that displays publicly available reservoir data published by the Water Development Department of Cyprus. The site is operated by a private individual and is provided free of charge for informational purposes only. This Privacy Policy explains what data is collected when you visit this site, why it is collected, and what rights you have over that data.

This policy applies to all pages served under the nero.cy domain. By continuing to use the site you acknowledge that you have read and understood this policy.

2. Data We Collect

This site does not require you to create an account, submit a form, or provide any personal information directly. The only data collected passively is:

  • Server access logs — your IP address, browser user-agent string, the URL you requested, HTTP status code, and a timestamp. These are generated automatically by the web server on every request.
  • Advertising cookies — if you consent, Google AdSense sets cookies in your browser (see Section 3 below).

No passwords, names, email addresses, or payment details are ever collected.

3. Cookies & Advertising

This site may display advertisements served by Google AdSense, a service provided by Google LLC. AdSense uses cookies to show you ads that are relevant to your interests based on your browsing history. These cookies are set by Google's domains, not by this site directly.

Specifically, Google may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to:

  • Remember your preferences and settings across visits.
  • Determine which ads are most relevant to you based on past browsing activity.
  • Measure ad performance and prevent fraudulent or invalid clicks.
  • Limit how often you see the same advertisement.

The AdSense script is only loaded after you click Accept on the consent banner. If you click Decline, no advertising cookies are set by Google during your visit.

You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time via Google Ad Settings or by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

4. Third-Party Services

This site loads the following third-party resources. Each third party operates its own privacy policy, which governs the data they collect.

  • Google AdSense / Google LLC — advertising cookies and scripts. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Google Fonts — the Inter typeface is loaded from fonts.googleapis.com. Google may log your IP address when serving the font files.
  • jsDelivr CDN — Chart.js is loaded from cdn.jsdelivr.net. See jsDelivr's Privacy Policy.
  • Water Development Department API — reservoir data is fetched server-side from cyprus-water.appspot.com. No visitor data is forwarded to this API.

5. Your Rights (GDPR — Articles 15–21)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and equivalent national legislation:

  • Art. 15 — Access: You have the right to request a copy of any personal data we hold about you (e.g., server log entries containing your IP address).
  • Art. 16 — Rectification: You have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal data.
  • Art. 17 — Erasure: You have the right to request deletion of your personal data where there is no compelling reason for its continued processing ("right to be forgotten").
  • Art. 18 — Restriction: You have the right to request that we restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances.
  • Art. 20 — Portability: Where processing is based on consent or contract, you have the right to receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Art. 21 — Objection: You have the right to object to processing of your personal data, including for direct marketing or profiling purposes.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at privacy@nero.cy. We will respond within 30 days.

6. How to Withdraw Consent

You can withdraw your consent to advertising cookies at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal. To do so:

  1. Open your browser's developer tools (usually F12).
  2. Navigate to the Application (Chrome/Edge) or Storage (Firefox) tab.
  3. Under Local Storage, find the entry for wl_cookie_consent and delete it.
  4. Clear your browser cookies for this site.
  5. Reload the page — the consent banner will reappear and you can choose Decline.

You can also use your browser's built-in cookie controls to block or delete cookies at any time. Refer to your browser's help documentation for instructions.

7. Data Retention

Server access logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days, after which they are automatically deleted. This retention period is the minimum necessary for security monitoring and abuse prevention. We do not archive logs beyond this period.

Cookies set by Google AdSense are subject to Google's own retention policies, which are described in Google's Cookie Policy.

8. Contact

For any privacy-related questions, requests to exercise your GDPR rights, or concerns about data processing on this site, please email:

privacy@nero.cy

We aim to respond to all legitimate requests within 30 days. For complex or high-volume requests, this period may be extended by a further two months; we will notify you within the initial 30-day window if this is the case.
